NBC’s “Passions” soap opera moves into new facility at CBS Studio Center

Studio City, Calif. – The new “Passions” soap opera has signed a one year agreement to lease sound stages and support facilities from the studio. The show is currently in production for the 1999/2000 season, and has already moved into a new dressing room facility designed by Gary L. Bastien, AIA of Bastien and Associates, Inc. The show is scheduled to air July 5.

Bastien has become known in Hollywood for his studio planning and design services. He has been involved in the extensive expansion and renovation of CBS Studio Center facilities in the last five years. This latest building houses seventeen dressing rooms, two make-up rooms and a greenroom.

“The construction schedule was accelerated because of the standing commitment to get “Passions” moved into the building on time” said project architect Kevin Harper. “ARB pulled out the stops in getting this project finished for CBS.” ARB was the general contractor for the project.

Bastien has played an ongoing role in the studio’s expansion efforts since 1995, when the firm designed the masterplan for the expansion of CBS Studio Center. The firm went on to design a production support office building on the south lot (Building 5), and three north lot sound stages with attached production support facilities which have been home to shows such as “The Bill Cosby Show” and “Caroline in the City.” The firm designed an award-winning seven-level parking structure for CBS in 1997, followed by the Stage 7 Annex and the recently completed Stage 4/5 Dressing Rooms.

Bastien’s background includes major projects for studios such as Warner Bros., Paramount Pictures, Raleigh Studios, and others. The firm also designed Los Angeles Center Studios, which is opening next month as the first studio in downtown Los Angeles. Bastien and Associates, Inc. is experienced in all types of commercial design.
